Complaints to Dream Girl Espresso’s landlord result in Forest Grove bikini barista stand’s closure

Dream Girl Espresso, the bikini barista stand that opened in Forest Grove a year ago amid public outcry, will shutter its doors on Aug. 1 as a result of “outside pressure,” according to the business’s landlord.

baristaOwner Leah Sizemore said the Forest Grove stand will close after her landlord Steve Schmitz, a real estate manager at John L. Scott, and his associates electronically received photos of the stand’s baristas from Forest Grove resident Eric Canon.

That led to pressure from Schmitz’s associates to sever ties with Dream Girl Espresso.

Schmitz, who manages the property, said he terminated the business’s month-to-month lease after he received complaints from people who refused to buy real estate from John L. Scott as a result of the pictures.

He said if the Dream Girl Espresso’s presence affected his associates’ ability to sell property, “that’s my responsibility.” He called Sizemore three weeks ago, notifying her that he would terminate the lease.

“[Dream Girl Espresso was] in business…They were doing a legal business selling coffee,” Schmitz said. “I don’t think they were doing anything more than that. I had to stop that because it affected other people in the John L. Scott market center system. I didn’t have really a choice.”

Several employees at the barista stand who felt uncomfortable with Canon’s actions have asked to transfer to Dream Girl’s Hillsboro location or refused to work at the Forest Grove location altogether, Sizemore said. The stand’s four employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.
